SEIU PA State Council Leaders Respond to Governor Shapiro’s Budget Address
“We stand ready to fight for a budget that provides a family sustaining job for every worker in Pennsylvania. We call on the Pennsylvania state legislature to pass a budget that prioritizes working people and protects our public services.” - David Melman, President, PA Joint Board/Workers United
(Harrisburg) - Governor Shapiro presented his proposed budget and his vision for Pennsylvania. Leaders from the Pennsylvania local unions of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) offered their response regarding the budget’s impact on workers.
“After more than 15 years, Pennsylvanians are long overdue for a raise. We support the Governor’s renewed call for a $15 minimum wage as we fight for a living wage for all Pennsylvania workers.” - Sam Williamson, Vice President and 32BJ PA/DE State Director
“Home care is a critical part of Pennsylvania’s economy and society. With a rapidly aging population and a growing shortage of caregivers, our seniors face a workforce crisis that our state urgently needs to address. We applaud the Governor’s proposed investment of $21 million dollars for the Direct Care Workforce that will bring some of the lowest paid workers in the state to $15/hr. We believe that this investment also serves as an important step in getting homecare workers essential benefits like paid time off and access to meaningful healthcare.” said Matt Yarnell, President, SEIU PA State Council and President, SEIU Healthcare PA
