SEIU PA State Council’s Endorsed Candidates Overwhelmingly Win Judicial and Municipal Races Across the State

Essential Workers’ Voices and Demands Heard Loud and Clear at the Ballot Box Calling for the protection of our democracy, women’s reproductive rights, worker rights, and a bold vision for Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

(Harrisburg, PA) - SEIU members across the Commonwealth celebrated as endorsed candidates won in judicial and municipal elections on platforms that stand up for the union way of life, the right to vote, the right to reproductive care, and to build a future that lifts up workers in our largest cities.

It was the efforts of SEIU workers and pro-democracy partners across the commonwealth engaging voters that delivered victories for Daniel McCaffrey for Supreme Court, Timika Lane and Jill Beck for Superior Court, and Matt Wolf for Commonwealth Court.

At the municipal level, SEIU members also played a key role in the victories of Sara Innamorato for Allegheny County Executive, the election of Philadelphia’s first Black Woman Mayor - Cherelle Parker,  and Kendra Brooks and Nicolas O’Rourke for Philadelphia City Council with the Working Families Party.

Steve Catanese, President of SEIU 668, issued the following statement in response to last night’s election results.

"Sara Innamorato's election is a true victory for working families in Allegheny County," said Steve Catanese, President of SEIU Local 668. "We're excited that the people have chosen a true pro-worker champion and look forward to working with her administration to help improve public services in the County. We also have seen that COURTS DO MATTER to voters, as Pennsylvanians increasingly recognize the importance of the judiciary in their everyday lives. We've been hard at work in election cycle after election cycle to ensure that the courts are helmed by jurists who center their decisions on the needs of working people."

“Sarah Innamorato has been a pro-worker champion since day one and we congratulate her on her leadership in this moment. The right to organize and build worker power among the region’s largest employers was on the ballot this year and voters made it clear that it is a top priority in Allegheny County.” said Matt Yarnell, Secretary Treasurer of the State Council and President of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania.
