August 29, 2022

"Our contracts, our right to have a strong union, and our ability to provide for our families are on the ballot in this election. Essential workers across Pennsylvania are committed to electing Josh Shapiro Governor, and supporting #UnionsForAll champions up and down the ballot who will fight for all working families and rebuild our communities with good union jobs. We know the stakes of this election and SEIU members are rising up together to meet this moment," said Matt Yarnell, President of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania and Secretary-Treasurer of SEIU Pennsylvania State Council.

The SEIU Pennsylvania State Council is the third-largest union in Pennsylvania – representing 80,000 workers across the Commonwealth – and one of the most powerful political organizations in the state. They have invested millions of dollars in political organizing over the past several election cycles through massive field organizing programs, targeted ads, and cutting-edge digital tactics. In 2020 alone, SEIU members in Pennsylvania made 1,607,716 calls and had 53,896 conversations, helping win the state for President Biden.

“SEIU 32BJ members will join with all workers across Pennsylvania—including workers who have won their union and those still fighting for their rights to join together—rising up to demand higher wages, good jobs, and a seat at the table,” said Gabe Morgan, President of SEIU PA State Council and Vice President of SEIU 32BJ. “We’re doubling down on our demand that candidates and electeds show up as champions for racial and economic justice. We expect them to use all of the power they have to make it easier for millions more workers to build strong industry-wide unions, to stop racist anti-voter legislation and to help our communities thrive.”

"We’re uniting to demand that every worker —no matter what they do, who signs their paychecks, what they look like, or where they’re from—has a voice in their workplace and in their government,” said Steve Catanese, President of SEIU Local 668. “These candidates have pledged to use every executive, legislative, and public authority they have to advance racial justice;  ensure that public dollars support good, union jobs; rewrite the rules for Unions for All and to help create a true, multi-racial democracy."
