The 60,000 working men and women of SEIU in Pennsylvania are disappointed that Senator Specter and others who say they support democracy have announced they will vote against meaningful debate on legislation that could improve the lives of millions of Americans and lead to infusing $852 Million into the Pennsylvania economy.
Senate Majority Leader Reid said today, and Senator Specter agreed, that our labor law needs serious reform. Working people are routinely harassed, intimidated and threatened when they choose to form a union. Workers like Trisha Miechur, a certified nursing assistant in Easton who was threatened with being fired for “disloyalty” to her employer, are looking only for a level playing field so they can have a more secure future for their families.
Now more than ever, Pennsylvania’s workers need a choice, free from intimidation and harassment, to bargain for better wages and health care. Our President, Vice President, and majorities in both houses of Congress share this goal, and we will not stop in our efforts to achieve it.
