Monday, April 23, 2007

April 17, 2007 – The Pennsylvania State Council of the Service Employees International Union announced endorsements today in key primary races in the city of Philadelphia. In the five at-large council districts, SEIU endorsed incumbents James Kenney, Bill Greenlee, Blondell Reynolds Brown and Juan Ramos as well as newcomer Sharif Street. In Council District 9, SEIU endorsed City Councilwoman Marion Tasco.

“We are supporting candidates who have a proven record for championing legislation that raises standards for workers,” said Wayne MacManiman, Secretary-Treasurer of State Council and District Chairman of Local 32BJ. “SEIU members believe they can rely on these candidates to continue to help improve their lives and bring prosperity to all Philadelphians.”

At-Large City Council Members Kenney, Greenlee, Reynolds Brown, and Ramos recently introduced legislation that would ensure that prevailing wages and benefits are paid to building service workers and security officers at future high-end developments made possible through city loans, grants, and financing.
