Monday, April 23, 2007

April 23, 2007 – The Pennsylvania State Council of the Service Employees International Union announced endorsements today in key primary races in Allegheny County.  Allegheny County Council incumbents Joan Cleary (District 6), Rich Fitzgerald (District 11) and Bill Lestitian (District 12) along with newcomer Nick Futules (District 7) received the backing of the Council.  For Pittsburgh City Council, SEIU endorsed incumbents Darlene Harris (District 1), Jeff Koch (District 3), Len Bodack (District 7) and challenger Leah Kirkland (District 9).

“We are supporting candidates for County and City Council that have a proven record of championing legislation that raises the standards for our workers,” said Gabe Morgan, president of State Council and vice-president of SEIU Local 3. “SEIU members believe they can rely on these candidates to help improve their quality of life and support the issues that matter to working families.”

State Council also endorsed the re-election campaigns of County Executive Dan Onorato and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl.  Both are unopposed.
