A Real Opportunity for Health Care Reform

We all know that something must be done about the health care crisis in Pennsylvania. And on March 17, the State House of Representatives took a major step forward by passing Senate Bill 1137, which creates the Pennsylvania Access to Basic Care (PA ABC) program.  The House took action after receiving thousands of emails, letters and phone calls from concerned citizens, including a large number of SEIU Pennsylvania members, who demanded that something be done immediately to help solve the health care crisis.

Hundreds of thousands of working Pennsylvanians will receive access to quality, affordable health insurance through PA ABC.  By providing access to care for more Pennsylvanians, we can lower the cost for all residents.  For example, it will reduce the number of people forced to use emergency rooms as their source of primary care, which exacerbates the costs for those of us who have insurance.  This plan also gives hope for access to quality care to those who have chronic diseases, such as diabetes and cancer, because it does not discriminate against those with pre-exisiting conditions.

We are moving in the right direction towards quality, affordable care for hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians, but we can't stop now!

The bill now goes to the State Senate for approval.  We need to tell our Senators it is time to make the PA ABC program a reality!

Take action now!
